According to Official Guinness Records,

The longest alternating chain of people clasping wrists consists of 4,052 people, achieved by Nishikyo Ward 40th Anniversary Commemorative Project Executive Committee (Japan), in Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan, on 25 September 2016.Local residents gathered and attempted the record at Katsura Junior High School in order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Nishikyo Ward.
