According to Official Guinness Records,

The fastest 10,000 metre run by a female athlete is 29 min 17.45 sec, achieved by Almaz Ayana (Ethiopia) at the 2016 Olympic Games, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 12 August 2016.The previous record set in 1993 had stood for 23 years. This record led Almaz to her first ever Olympic gold medal.
