According to Official Guinness Records,

The smallest mp3 player is the iPod shuffle, introduced on 11 March 2009 by Apple (USA). It measures just 29.0x31.6x8.7 mm (1.14x1.24x0.34 in) and weighs 12.5 grams (0.44 oz).
The iPod shuffle holds up to 1,000 songs and has all of the controls located on the earphone cord.
