According to Nielsen, the televised debate between the presidential candidates Hillary Clinton (Democrat) and Donald Trump (Republican) on 26 September 2016 drew an average of 84 million viewers, beating the previous record set in 1980 by Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, who attracted 80.6 million viewers.
