According to Official Guinness Records,

The most tries scored in a single Rugby World Cup tournament by an individual player is eight and was first achieved by Jonah Lomu (New Zealand) in 1999. The feat was equalled by Bryan Habana (South Africa) in 2007 and most recently matched by Julian Savea (New Zealand) in 2015.Jonah Lomu scored his eight tries in five games against Tonga (two), England, Italy (two), Scotland and France (two).Bryan Habana scored his eight tries in three games against Samoa (four), USA (two) and Argentina (two). Julian Savea scored his eight tries in three games against Naimbia (two), Georgia (three) and France (three).
