Rosh Hashanah, which literally means "beginning of the year"in Hebrew and referred to in the Torah as Yom Teruah, is the day of the Jewish New Year. In the Jewish calendar, this day is Tishrei 1st. Whole families attend synagogue services where the blowing of an instrument called a shofar, tool made from the horn of a ram or other animal, serves as "a special call"and it is meant to encourage people to reflect on the years that have passed and the years to come.
