International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking:
In 1987, the General Assembly of the United Nations, expressing its determination to strengthen action and cooperation at the national, regional and international levels for the purpose of forming an international society free of drug abuse, and urging governments and organizations to formulate their programs to take due account of activities in the control of drug abuse, decides to declare 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture:
In 1997 the General Assembly of the United Nations, recognizing the use of torture as one of the most abhorrent acts that humans commit against their peers;urging the complete eradication of it;and encouraging the enforcement of the Convention against torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Punishment, which entered into force on 26 June 1987, hereby proclaim June 26 as the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
