In order to encourage Member States to organize special events to highlight the contribution of public administration to the development process, the General Assembly, in its resolution 57/277, proclaimed 23 June as United Nations Public Service Day. International Widow's Day:
Recognizing that the abuse of widows and their children is one of the most serious violations of human rights, and that actions need to take place to promote the rights of all widows so they can live better and realize their vast potential to contribute to the world, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 23 June as the International Widows Day.
