• The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls) 2021:

  FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

  Wisdom 3:1-9

  1But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. 2In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction, 3and their going from us to be their destruction;but they are at peace. 4For though in the sight of men they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. 5Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;6like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them. 7In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble. 8They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them for ever. 9Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his elect, and he watches over his holy ones.

  Psalms 27:1, 4, 7-9, 13-14

  1The LORD is my light and my salvation;whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life;of whom shall I be afraid? 4One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after;that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. 7Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! 8Thou hast said, "Seek ye my face."   SECOND LECTURE OF THE MASS

  Romans 5:5-11

  5and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. 6While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man -- though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. 8But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. 9Since, therefore, we are now justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation.

  GOSPEL OF THE MASS

  John 11:17-27

  17Now when Jesus came, he found that Laz'arus had already been in the tomb four days. 18Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary sat in the house. 21Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you." 23Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." 24Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." 25Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life;he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" 27She said to him, "Yes, Lord;I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world."

  FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

  Rom 12:5-16ab

  Brothers and sisters:
  We, though many, are one Body in Christ
  and individually parts of one another.
  Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us,
  let us exercise them:
  if prophecy, in proportion to the faith;
  if ministry, in ministering;
  if one is a teacher, in teaching;
  if one exhorts, in exhortation;
  if one contributes, in generosity;
  if one is over others, with diligence;
  if one does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
  
  Let love be sincere;
  hate what is evil,
  hold on to what is good;
  love one another with mutual affection;
  anticipate one another in showing honor.
  Do not grow slack in zeal,
  be fervent in spirit,
  serve the Lord.
  Rejoice in hope,
  endure in affliction,
  persevere in prayer.
  Contribute to the needs of the holy ones,
  exercise hospitality.
  Bless those who persecute you,
  bless and do not curse them.
  Rejoice with those who rejoice,
  weep with those who weep.
  Have the same regard for one another;
  do not be haughty but associate with the lowly.

  Lk 14:15-24

  One of those at table with Jesus said to him,
  "Blessed is the one who will dine in the Kingdom of God."
  He replied to him,
  "A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many.
  When the time for the dinner came,
  he dispatched his servant to say to those invited,
  'Come, everything is now ready.'
  But one by one, they all began to excuse themselves.
  The first said to him,
  'I have purchased a field and must go to examine it;
  I ask you, consider me excused.'
  And another said, 'I have purchased five yoke of oxen
  and am on my way to evaluate them;
  I ask you, consider me excused.'
  And another said, 'I have just married a woman,
  and therefore I cannot come.'
  The servant went and reported this to his master.
  Then the master of the house in a rage commanded his servant,
  'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town
  and bring in here the poor and the crippled, the blind and the lame.'
  The servant reported, 'Sir, your orders have been carried out
  and still there is room.'
  The master then ordered the servant,
  'Go out to the highways and hedgerows
  and make people come in that my home may be filled.
  For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.'"
