The Roman Catholic Church, according to the General Roman Calendar, celebrates the following in Wednesday, 2024-10-16:

  • Saint Hedwig, religious or Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, virgin (Optional Memorial) 2024:

    FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

    Ephesians 1:1-10

1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are also faithful in Christ Jesus: 2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. 5He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8which he lavished upon us. 9For he has made known to us in all wisdom and insight the mystery of his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ 10as a plan for the fulness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM

    Psalms 98:1-6

1O sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory. 2The LORD has made known his victory, he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations. 3He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. 4Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! 5Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! 6With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD!

    SECOND LECTURE OF THE MASS

    Luke 11:47-54

47Woe to you! for you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. 48So you are witnesses and consent to the deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs. 49Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, `I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,' 50that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, 51from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechari'ah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation. 52Woe to you lawyers! for you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering." 53As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things, 54lying in wait for him, to catch at something he might say.

  • WEDNESDAY TWENTY-EIGHTH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME 2024:

    Ordinary Time.

    FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

    Gal 5:18-25

    Brothers and sisters:
If you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are obvious:
    immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry,
    sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy,
outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness,
    dissensions, factions, occasions of envy,
drinking bouts, orgies, and the like.
I warn you, as I warned you before,
that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
    patience, kindness, generosity,
    faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh
    with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM

    Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6

    R. (see Jn 8:12) Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Blessed the man who follows not
    the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.
    R. Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
    He is like a tree
    planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
    and whose leaves never fade.
    Whatever he does, prospers.
    R. Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
    Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.
    R. Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.

    GOSPEL OF THE MASS

    Lk 11:42-46

    The Lord said:
    "Woe to you Pharisees!
You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb,
but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God.
These you should have done, without overlooking the others.
    Woe to you Pharisees!
You love the seat of honor in synagogues
    and greetings in marketplaces.
    Woe to you!
You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk."

Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply,
"Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too."
And he said, "Woe also to you scholars of the law!
You impose on people burdens hard to carry,
but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them."
