Shortest pulse of visible light
According to Official Guinness Records,
The shortest pulse of visible light has a duration of 380 attoseconds, achieved by Eleftherios Goulielmakis (Greece/Germany) and his team of researchers at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany, and published on 4 February 2016.The pulse was generated with a light-field synthesizer, which flashes of light with known wavelengths are combined in different phases, so that some parts of the resultant pulse are 'cancelled out' through superposition, leaving an incredibly short pulse light. The ultra-short pulses are used to study electrons' behaviour when energised by light.
