Along the journey, Tyson drove through North America, including parts of Canada, USA and Mexico, collecting fuel for the journey at many locations, including fast food restaurants. The mark was achieved during the second attempt at the record. During the first attempt, a total of 19,697 km (12,239.12 mi) was achieved before the Mitsubishi Delica broke down and was not repaired for 11 months, ending the attempt.
