The, US Navy Nimitz Class, nuclear-powered aircraft carriers are the largest warships ever built. The Nimitz class includes: the USS Nimitz, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Carl Vinson,Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, John C. Stennis, Harry S Truman and Ronald Reagan. The more recent Nimitz aircraft carriers (CVN72-CVN76) have a displacement of 102,000 tonnes (224.8 million lb) fully loaded, a length of 317 m (1,040 ft) and beam of 40.8 m (133 ft 10 in). The carrier reaches a maximum speed of over 30 knots (56 km/h;34.5 mph), and accommodates a complement of 3,184 personnel (with 203 officers);2,800 aircrew (with 366 officers);and 70 flag (with 25 officers). The keel for the tenth and last Nimitz Class, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), was laid in September 2003. The carrier was christened in October 2006 and will enter service in 2009.
