According to Official Guinness Records,

The largest sock drive in 8 hours at a single location consists of 2,798 pairs of socks, and was achieved by Temple University’s Main Campus Program Board (USA) at the Howard Gittis Student Center, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, on 9 October 2017.The attempt ran from 12:02 PM to 8:02 PM. Temple University's Main Campus Program Board broke this record title as part of "Socktoberfest" to help kick off Homecoming Week celebrations. All socks collected were new and were donated to The Joy of Sox for the benefit of the homeless community in Philadelphia.
