According to Official Guinness Records,

The largest donation of used mobile phones in 24 hours is 2,590 for an event organised by MobileMuster (Australia) on 31 May 2008.
The attempt was held simultaneously around Australia in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
