First successful test of UAVs in cooperative flight
According to Official Guinness Records,
The first successful demonstration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) flying fully autonomously in cooperative flight was achieved by the United States Air Force (USAF), under the operational control of the USAF UAV Battle Lab at Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, USA between, 1 and 11 July 2007. SkyWatcher and a SkyRaider UAVs were flown in these cooperative test flights, each flown by its own onboard virtual pilot but controlled by SkyForce Distributed Management System (DMS), which enabled one operator to manage four aircraft! The aircraft were able to to communicate with each other over a common mesh network and successfully performing varied operational type tasks, such as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as hunter-killer scenarios SkyRaider has a retractable undercarriage, carries a 907 kg (1,000 lb) payload and is designed for medium endurance ISR tasks and the carriage and release of external stores. SkyForce is designed to operate up to 12 airborne UAVs and 20 ground nodes concurrently.
