First proof of the existence of gravitational waves

According to Official Guinness Records,

The first proof of the existence of gravitational waves was provided by the LIGO (USA) experiment in Livingston, Louisiana, USA, and announced on 11 February 2016. After a series of upgrades intended to improve its sensitivity, (which finished in September 2015), LIGO has fulfilled its primary purpose in providing undeniable proof of gravitational waves. “Up until now we’ve been deaf to gravitational waves, but today, we’re able to hear them”.
