Month Calendar For United States Holidays January 2017

  • National Mentoring Month[fed-ob][pro]: This is a month meant to honor all those who continuously strive to provide young people with the resources and support they need and deserve. The Presidential Proclamation states that
by sharing their own stories and offering guidance and advice, mentors can instill a sense of infinite possibility in the hearts and minds of their mentees, demonstrating that with hard work and passion, nothing is beyond their potential. Whether simply offering a compassionate ear or actively teaching and inspiring curiosity, mentors can play pivotal roles in young peoples' lives.
  • National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month[fed-ob][pro]: This month intends to raise awareness of human trafficking in the United States, urge Americans to recognize the vital role we can play in ending all forms of slavery and observe this month with appropriate programs and activities. The President of the United States is asked to proclaim January as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. The Presidential Proclamation states that
All nations have a part to play in keeping our world safe for all people -- regardless of age, background, or belief. During National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, let us recognize the victims of trafficking, and let us resolve to build a future in which its perpetrators are brought to justice and no people are denied their inherent human rights of freedom and dignity.
National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month culminates in the annual celebration of National Freedom Day on February 1.
    • National Stalking Awareness Month[fed-ob][pro]: The Presidential Proclamation states that
Every person deserves to live freely and without the fear of being followed or harassed. Stalking is a violation of our fundamental freedoms, and it insults our most basic values as a Nation. Often perpetrated by those we know -- and sometimes by strangers -- stalking is a serious offense that occurs too frequently and goes unreported in too many cases. During National Stalking Awareness Month, we stand with victims of stalking, pledge to bring their stalkers to justice, and rededicate our efforts to ridding our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods of this crime.
This year marks the 14th year of observation of National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM).
