[fed-ob] As stated by the president in his presidential proclamation, "Save Your Vision Week is a time for all Americans to take action to protect their sight."To remind Americans about the importance of safeguarding their eyesight, the United States Congress, by joint resolution approved December 30, 1963, as amended (77 Stat. 629;36 U.S.C. 138), has authorized and requested the President to proclaim the first week in March of each year as "Save Your Vision Week."Casimir Pulaski's Birthday:
[il-le] Casimir Pulaski was a Polish nobleman, soldier and military commander who has been called "the father of the American cavalry."Benjamin Franklin was impressed by Pulaski, and wrote of him: "Count Pulaski of Poland, an officer famous throughout Europe for his bravery and conduct in defence of the liberties of his country against the three great invading powers of Russia, Austria and Prussia ... may be highly useful to our service."He subsequently recommended that General George Washington accept Pulaski as a volunteer in the Continental Army cavalry and said that Pulaski "was renowned throughout Europe for the courage and bravery he displayed in defense of his country's freedom."Pulaski arrived in Marblehead, Massachusetts, near Boston, on July 23, 1777. After his arrival, Pulaski wrote to George Washington, "I came here, where freedom is being defended, to serve it, and to live or die for it."
