It is a chance to hike, learn, share, get active and experience the powerful content knowledge, values, and skills embodied by our Nation’s remarkable cultural, natural, and recreational heritage. There are nearly 400 National Parks coast-to-coast! According to the Presidential Proclamation (2015), Our National Parks have allowed generations to discover history, nature, and wildlife in irreplaceable ways. From the highest peaks of Denali to the lowest dips of the Grand Canyon, families around our country enjoy the splendor of the outdoors. Throughout National Park Week, as we celebrate the ways in which our treasured outdoor spaces enrich our lives and uplift our spirits, the National Park Service will again offer free admission to America's National Parks so more people can explore our country's vast natural beauty.
National Volunteer Week - Day 7:
[pro] The second week of April each year is designated as National Volunteer Week. This week serves as a means to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism in the United States. Communities across the United States have celebrated National Volunteer Week since 1974, when President Nixon signed an executive order establishing the second week of April as an annual celebration of volunteering. Since then, every U.S. president has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week. According to the presidential proclamation (2016), Each day, humble people of every background and belief come together to fulfill the timeless responsibility we have as Americans: to accept certain obligations to one another. People of all ages can volunteer, and anyone can, through the smallest of acts, do their part to improve the lives of others. This week, we celebrate the selfless individuals around our country who channel their civic virtues through volunteerism, and we encourage more people to make service an integral part of their lives.
420 Day:
[other] [unofficial] 420 Day, sometimes called April 20 or National Weed Day, is a day informally observed by marijuana advocates in the United States. Although, 420 is a commonplace code used by pot enthusiasts to refer to cannabis, its origin is unclear, with theories ranging from police patrol codes to the anniversary date of famous pot smokers or the number of chemical compounds in cannabis. Under federal law, marijuana is still an illegal drug. Nonetheless, it has been legalized for recreational use in the states of Washington and Colorado. Medical marijuana is now legal in 20 states and the District of Columbia. There are several efforts going on by supporters to make this day an official day. Child Care Worker Appreciation Week in Ohio:
[oh-sp] The week of the nineteenth day of April shall be designated as "Child Care Worker Appreciation Week in Ohio," to commemorate those child care workers who lost their lives in the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building on April 19, 1995, and to increase public appreciation of child care workers in Ohio. As used in this section, "the week of the nineteenth day of April" means the seven-day period beginning on Sunday and ending on Saturday that includes the nineteenth day of April. Hillbilly - Day 3:
