[fed-ob] This year National Forest Products Week starts on Sunday, October 15 2017 and ends on Saturday, October 21 2017. To recognize the importance of products from our forests, the Congress, by Public Law 86-753 (36 U.S.C. 123), as amended, has designated the week beginning on the third Sunday in October of each year as "National Forest Products Week"and has authorized and requested the President to issue a proclamation in observance of this week each year. [ak] Alaska Day is a legal holiday in the U.S. state of Alaska observed on October 18, 2017, which marks the 150th anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States which occurred on Friday, October 18, 1867. It is a paid holiday for state employees. The official celebration is held in Sitka, where schools release students early, many businesses close for the day, and events such as a parade and reenactment of the flag raising are held.
