St. Andrew's Day:
[3] St Andrew's Day is celebrated every year on 30 November and is Scotland's national day. The day has become a bank holiday to be taken in lieu of one of the other statutory holidays at discretion of individual companies/authorities as declared in the St Andrew's Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Act 2007 by the Scottish Parliament. The Act, which was passed by the Parliament on 29 November 2006, and received Royal Assent on 15 January 2007, amends the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Moreover, St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, as well as several other countries including Greece, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. For many Scotish people, Saint Andres's Day has come to simbolize the start of the winter and Christmas season with Christmas markets, boughs of holly and decorative tartan sashes. And when (or if) the snow arrives, ski- and snowboard-laden visitors will be heading for the pistes, including the Cairngorm, Glencoe and Nevis Range areas. In the Scotish Diaspora, St Andrew's Day is marked with a celebration of Scottish culture with traditional Scottish food, music and dance.
