  Acts 20:17-27

  17And from Mile'tus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church. 18And when they came to him, he said to them: "You yourselves know how I lived among you all the time from the first day that I set foot in Asia, 19serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials which befell me through the plots of the Jews;20how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house, 21testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance to God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. 22And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, bound in the Spirit, not knowing what shall befall me there;23except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. 24But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may accomplish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. 25And now, behold, I know that all you among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom will see my face no more. 26Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, 27for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.

  John 17:1-11

  1When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come;glorify thy Son that the Son may glorify thee, 2since thou hast given him power over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him. 3And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. 4I glorified thee on earth, having accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do;5and now, Father, glorify thou me in thy own presence with the glory which I had with thee before the world was made. 6"I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world;thine they were, and thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word. 7Now they know that everything that thou hast given me is from thee;8for I have given them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from thee;and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9I am praying for them;I am not praying for the world but for those whom thou hast given me, for they are thine;10all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11And now I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to thee.   FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

  Acts 28:16-20, 30-31

  When he entered Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself,
  with the soldier who was guarding him.
  
  Three days later he called together the leaders of the Jews.
  When they had gathered he said to them, “My brothers,
  although I had done nothing against our people
  or our ancestral customs,
  I was handed over to the Romans as a prisoner from Jerusalem.
  After trying my case the Romans wanted to release me,
  because they found nothing against me deserving the death penalty.
  But when the Jews objected, I was obliged to appeal to Caesar,
  even though I had no accusation to make against my own nation.
  This is the reason, then, I have requested to see you
  and to speak with you, for it is on account of the hope of Israel
  that I wear these chains.”
  
  He remained for two full years in his lodgings.
  He received all who came to him, and with complete assurance
  and without hindrance he proclaimed the Kingdom of God
  and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

  GOSPEL OF THE MASS

  Jn 21:20-25

  Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved,
  the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper
  and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?”
  When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
  Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come?
  What concern is it of yours?
  You follow me.”
  So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die.
  But Jesus had not told him that he would not die,
  just “What if I want him to remain until I come?
  What concern is it of yours?”
  
  It is this disciple who testifies to these things
  and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.
  There are also many other things that Jesus did,
  but if these were to be described individually,
  I do not think the whole world would contain the books
  that would be written.
